Privacy Policy

Rootbound is being built quietly, in development, by a tiny team. This page is here to keep people who want to follow that work in the loop. The only thing we ask for is an email address, and the only thing we do with it is use it to send development updates. This page tells you everything we do with that information, in plain language.

What we collect

When you submit the signup form on this site, we collect the email address you enter. We do not ask for your name, your location, your IP address, or any other personal data. We do not run third-party analytics on this page, and we do not embed social media trackers, advertising pixels, or fingerprinting scripts.

Your browser sends a small amount of standard request information to the server that delivers this page (your IP address and the browser you're using). We do not store this information beyond what is required to serve the page to you.

How we use your email

We use the email address you give us only to:

• Send occasional updates about Rootbound's development
• Invite you to play test phases when they open, if you'd like
• Tell you when the game is ready to play in full

We do not use it for advertising. We do not share, sell, rent, or trade your email address with any third party. We do not pass it to partner companies, marketing networks, or data brokers.

How long we keep it

We keep your email address until you ask us to remove it, or until we decide to retire the launch list (whichever comes first). If we ever decide to retire the list — for example, after the game launches and this page is replaced — we will send a final note and then delete everything.

Where it's stored

Your email address is stored with Beehiiv, our email service provider. Beehiiv is responsible for the subscriber list and for delivering the emails we send. They process your email address solely on our instructions, do not use it for their own marketing, and are bound by their own privacy commitments — you can read those at the link above.

When you submit the form on this site, your email address is sent from your browser to a small server function we control, which then forwards it to Beehiiv with a private credential. Your email address is not stored on our servers in transit.

Your rights

You have the right to:

• Access the information we hold about you (which is just your email address)
• Correct it if it's wrong
• Delete it at any time, for any reason
• Unsubscribe from all future emails — every email we send will include a one-click unsubscribe link

Residents of the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and California have additional rights under the GDPR, UK GDPR, and CCPA respectively, including the right to data portability and the right to object to processing. We honor these rights for everyone, not just residents of those regions.

Cookies and tracking

This site does not set cookies. It does not run analytics scripts (no Google Analytics, no Facebook Pixel, no Mixpanel, no Heap). It does not embed third-party widgets that track you across the web. The only data the site stores in your browser is a small note in your browser's local storage marking that you submitted the form, so we don't ask you to submit it twice. That note never leaves your device.

Children's privacy

Rootbound is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect email addresses from children under 13. If you believe a child has signed up, contact us at the address below and we will delete the entry.

Changes to this policy

We may update this page as Rootbound's development progresses (especially when we move from this launch site to a production email infrastructure). When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top. Material changes will also be announced to existing subscribers by email so you have a chance to review and unsubscribe if you'd like.
